Super Llama: Llamas are awesome! (11)
I have returned!!! ... For now. Just felt like letting anyone who's still interested know what's up. I've been quite busy these last two years, working with 3D printing companies around Boston and more broadly Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and completing college. I did a poll before I 'disappeared' two years ago to see what people among the brony community would find interesting in terms of 3D printing capabilities for sellable stuff. Seemed like people were interested in 3D printed plushies, 3D printed electronics, and 3D printed metal/ceramic - generally more durable materials than what shapeways offers... but all with the resolution a

So I designed that $250 3D printer but there's lots more to be done with the electronics, which is not my strong suit. I've got some friends working on replacing stepper motors with closed-loop-control servos, which should improve scalability and reliability while reducing cost relative to other 3D printers. It's really looking awesome though: who knew you could get a whole 3D-printer frame in carbon fiber for less than $20! I've come a lot further with my concrete extruders, recently finding the time to make and test a method for producing a smooth internal via for the plastic to flow through. I got plastic to extrude repeatably, and then I

My college classes have been taking all my time recently, but that's about to change. Some people noticed the purchase button on Futuralization.com doesn't let you buy more than a gram of plastic at the moment - that's because I didn't want anyone accidentally purchasing some expensive quantity while I wasn't around to remedy the issue. Essentially, the site's been on hold. On another note, I've been taking some mathematics classes that will allow me to manipulate Green's functions and PDEs to make finite element models of my 3D-printers, so that I may figure out how to cancel the low-frequency vibrational modes and improve print resolution.

i always wondered what your icon actually is. a gene?
It's a simulation of a circular 2D-wave propagating outward in a nonlinear, infinite space mapped to a finite box. I made the program that ran the simulation. It also has Sethisto's convention signature on it, because why not? I traded the aerogel carving I made for it.
infinite space within a finite box kinda exceeds my cognitive ability but it sounds cool and i like the grey
also, apparently Sethisto's signature looked like a chromosome during mitosis to me
The wave just approaches the edge but never reaches it and never reflects. It's essentially an absorbing boundary condition… Or it would be. But computers are not infinitely powerful, so the simulation eventually breaks down.
